Zoo Photography
Not everyone has the opportunity to photograph wildlife in nature, particularly in places such
as East Africa or the Amazon of South America. Thankfully zoos not only provide an
opportunity to see many animals we’re familiar with, but also an opportunity to get great
images. In fact, the biggest advantage of zoo photography is the fact that you can be relatively
close to the animals and not at the mercy of unpredictable nature or being limited to one
shooting position in a safari vehicle. Zoos provide optimal viewing opportunities of animals.

Zoo photography however isn’t without its challenges. You need to consider the following if
you wish to make the very most out of your photography.
All the following will be covered by Malcolm as you make your way around the different
areas of the Zoo, eg distance, moving subjects, challenging lighting, cages and glass and backgrounds.
Technical advice, focusing, shooting mode, shutter speed, aperture, iso, tripod or monopod and flash.

Additional advice, photograph portraits and behavious, and be patient.
